I’m a technology entrepreneur & investor. We’re currently building something special at Seven Seven Six 7️⃣7️⃣6️⃣
I also write things about entrepreneurship, investing, style, health, and family.
👨💻 I’m a technology entrepreneur and investor. I want to be known for making this world better—much better.
🦄 I’m an investor in startups—almost always at the earliest possible stage—including 40 Unicorns (companies worth at least $1B): Coinbase (NYSE: COIN), Hubspot (NYSE: HUBS), Opendoor (NASDAQ: OPEN), Filecoin, Instacart, Impossible, Gusto, Reddit, Flexport, Ro, Sky Mavis (Axie Infinity), Sorare, Pipe, Clubhouse, Easypost, Patreon, GOAT, Cruise, Rippling, Standard, Deel, Algolia, Flock Safety, Lattice, Blend, Color, Wave, OpenSea, Sift, Papa, Clipboard Health, Envoy, Optimism, Weave, Apollo GraphQL, Plangrid, Front, Simulate, Commsor, Daily Harvest, Silo, withco, and Cloud9.
🖤 I launched my foundation, the 776 Foundation, with the mission of fighting inequity worldwide. I made a $20M commitment to our first program, the 776 Fellowship, which is a two-year program and $100,000 grant for 20 young people a year who want to fight climate change (which disproportionately affects marginalized people). 💼 I serve on the board of Ro. I’m the co-founder of Reddit. We were in the very first batch of Y Combinator (Summer 2005) and led the company to a $10M sale to Condé Nast in 2006. I returned as Executive Chair in 2014 to help lead the turnaround of a company with less than $10M in annual revenue to today’s $10B+ valuation.
🗺️ After the murder of George Floyd, I considered a future conversation I’d have with my daughter about what I did to create a more equitable world online and offline for her; I resigned from the board of Reddit in June of 2020 in protest. I’m relieved that Reddit fulfilled my wish to have my seat filled by a Black director and started taking steps to curb hate on the platform. There’s a lot more work to do. I’m the co-founder of initialized ($200B in market value) and left my role as Managing Partner in July of 2020 in order to build another venture firm from the ground up, focused on software and empathy, called Seven Seven Six 7️⃣7️⃣6️⃣.
🏛️ After just one year, 776 now has over $750M AUM and we’re getting closer to manifesting the vision we debuted in Forbes: a tech startup that deploys venture capital; an investor community that reflects our country (50% women and 15% Black & indigenous people); and a focus on supporting our founders and building a high-performing team in intentional ways.
👨👩👧 When I’m not running 776, I’m Business Dad fighting for Paid Family Leave for all American families and challenging a generation of dads to take paternity leave should they get the opportunity.
